It is said that no matter what you do, if you do it long enough and enthusiastic enough. Sooner or later your effort will bring forth the reward. The story of Sadiq Buzo, is one of hard work and dedication. He has shown that in whatever you, its imperative to have conviction and maintain consistency. The Northern Blog caught up with him and we had an interesting chat. Here are some excerpts from our interview.

The Northerner: Can we know you?
Buzo: My name is Sadiq Salihu Abubakar also known as Buzo Dan Fillo. I am a singer, a music producer, an editor and a voice over artist with Algaita Studios a company that translates movies into Hausa language.

The Northerner: How long have you been in the entertainment industry?
Buzo: I have been in the industry for as long as I can remember but let me just say I have been in the industry for over 15 years.

The Northerner: How many projects have you done over this period?
Buzo: For the music due to some reasons like lack of proper support, when I say support I don’t mean financial support. I am talking about moral support, so I have not been really consistent. However, in terms of translating movies, since 2008 when we started, I can say we have translated over 150 movies. Although I have also produced over 200 songs but not all of them were released.

The Northerner: What are your most popular works?
Buzo: Some of my popular works include a translation which was titled Dan Tawaye, there is Inuwa and Masheki, i think these are the most popular ones. While in music I did a song called Sarai, if you listen to the beats its really traditional but the singing style is foreign. There is also Falsafa, Boys and Girls, and Hello Hello. I think these are the quiet the most popular ones.

The Northerner: What is your relationship with the Algaita Studio Productions?
Buzo: My relationship with Algaita simply put is I founded it. We started Algaita with my younger brother. Although he is now a civil servant. So my involvement with Algaita is that I am one of the founders fathers.

The Northerner: What prompted you to form a record label company at the time when such idea was uncommon in the north?
Buzo: Well at that time we were looking outwards, meaning we were then influenced by foreign musicals, you know listening to foreign artists. And at that time I started having this passion that since we are listening to these people why can’t we have our own songs so people could listen to them. I don’t know may be its my language or my region but whatever is the case I think its born out of passion to make something happen, something new and exciting. So that was what prompted the whole idea.

The Northerner: What can you say is your milestone so far?
Buzo: Well as far as I am concerned as an entertainer your goal shouldn’t just be about making money but also about making impact. The thing is how many souls have you touched, how many people have you been able to reach. How many have you been able to put smile on their faces? So the milestone I have is reaching across all Hausa speaking communities not only in Nigeria. They have all been positively influenced with my entertainment be it the musical aspect or the movie translation.

The Northerner: What are your challenges so far?
Buzo: I don’t want to talk about financial challenges. The thing is my major challenge has been the failure of people to understand. When you bring something new, the first thing people do is to reject it. They feel as if you are trying to bring something which will bring harm to them. I don’t know the reason why but that’s what people do. So that kind of misunderstanding has been a great bone in the neck. Thank God now people have opened up to this type of things and the challenges have eased down.

The Northerner: So what is your advice for people going into this line of profession?
Buzo: I have three words for them. Patience, Humility and Consistency.
